Description

Jamal uses percussion instruments to explore math, geography, and science with your students while delving into the music and rhythms of diverse cultures. Jamal performs on a variety of exotic instruments, including Egyptian flutes made from PVC and Egyptian drums made from clay by his own hand. He will acquaint the audience with rhythms and melodies from Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia using instruments such as gongs from China, xylophones and Talking Drums from West Africa.

Students Will

  • learn the geographic origins of different percussion instruments.
  • learn the basics of rhythm and music.
  • be exposed to a variety of percussion instruments from around the world.

Technical Needs: Please designate a person in your school as the primary contact on the day of the program to facilitate artist needs. Stage area to be swept and cleared of all risers, desks, tables, etc. before artists arrival.

Deadline: Minimum of three weeks prior to requested program date.
Cancellation Policy: A program is confirmed when you receive your contract by mail, fax, or email. Should illness, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the program taking place as scheduled, Young Audiences will offer the option of rescheduling or using a substitute artist. Programs canceled by a school or community presenter after confirmation are subject to full payment. A $25 rescheduling fee will be charged if a schedule change is requested after a program has been confirmed.
After School Policy: A teacher or afterschool employee must remain with class at all times.
